The Haunted Journey
It was a rainy evening and i was returning from my tution classes. Unlike all the other normal days i was not accompanied by my father as he went for a tour at Delhi. The rain seemed to be increasing with every moment. It seemed that the Rain God was not in a good mood that day because of the heavy downpour. Also it was not possible to get any bus or a taxi at that time because the streets were to much deserted.
At that moment i found a car just stopped in front of me. The driver of the car was none other than Mr. A. Bannerjee, our next door neighbour. He opened the window of the car and asked me “Hey you, just hop in!” I thought that I could finally reach home. As I sat in the car, he drove me to my home. Inside the car the air was very chilling. I thought that i was feeling cold as i was all wet. Very unlikely of him, he did not speak a word on the way. To break the uneasy silence, i asked him, “How was your visit to Darjeeling, uncle?” To my astonishment, he did not reply. On reaching my home i told him “Thanks for the lift”. He said nothing and drove speedily away. I saw the car vanished round the corner.
I was all soaked when i reached home. My mother gave me some food to eat for dinner. She then said something, which i was not at all ready to hear. She told that Mr. Banerjee, our neighbour passed away on the way back home from Darjeeling. He suffered a massive heart attack. The food in my mouth froze and i was seized with horror.
